WHY WAIT TO SERVE JESUS?
When one takes into account just how short life really is, why should one wait to serve Jesus? I would like to take a few moments to look at two scriptures in the Bible, and look at how long life is on God’s clock.
The Bible tells us in 2 Peter 3:8: But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. And in Psalm 90:9-10: For all our days are passed away in thy wrath; we spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Now I would like to do some mathematics on these two scriptures. From 2 Peter 3:8, one day equals 365 days per year multiplied by 1000 years equals 365,000 days is one day with the Lord, which also equals 24 hours. Hence 365,000 days per day divided by 24 hours per day equals 15,208.333 days per hour. Keep in mind Leap years are not included. From Psalm 90:10, man’s life of 70 years times 365 days per year equals 25,550 days. Then 25,550 days divided by 15,208.333 days per hour equals 1.68 hours. Now 0.68 hours times 60 equal 40.8 minutes, and 0.8 minutes time’s 60 equal 48 seconds. On God’s clock 70 years equals ONE HOUR AND, FORTY MINUTES, AND FORTY- EIGHT SECONDS. WOW, LIFE IS SHORT!!! Do you know Jesus, and if not friend, why wait until tomorrow to serve him?
Job was a man who understood sorrow, and trouble, yet his heart never swayed away from the only true God. He also realized that life is short. Lets take a look at the words of Job in the Holy Bible starting with Job7:6, My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope. And in Job 8:9: (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow.) In Job 9:25: Now my days are swifter than a post; they flee away, they see no good. And in Job 14:1-2: Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
When one looks at the life of Job with all of the hard trials he endured; one cannot help but wonder how he kept his integrity. One would have to realize there was a Higher Power keeping him, and giving him strength to endure the heartaches he faced. His friends were of no consolation to him, and they only made him feel worse with their vain words. Job’s heart cleaved unto the Higher Power through the valley of the shadow of death. Friend, I would like to tell you who that Higher Power happened to be, Jesus! As a result of Job keeping his integrity, he was blessed double in his latter years by God. Friend, why wait until tomorrow to serve Jesus when you can have his strength through the trails of life today. God was good to Job, because he served Him, and waited on the God of his salvation. When one puts trust in Jesus during the trails of life, they will have a peace the world cannot give them, and Jesus’ yoke is easy. Satan is the hard taskmaster, but we will focus on him a little later.
The Bible tells us there are many benefits in serving God. One can read in Psalm 68:19: Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Friend, if you do not know Jesus, today is the day of salvation, which is the greatest benefit. Every man, woman, and child must work out their own salvation with fear, and trembling. One may ask what must I do to be saved? Friend our God has made the plan of salvation so simple that even the most unlearned person can understand it.
Lets see what the Bible tells us in Acts 2:38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Repentance is a change of mind, and turning away from your sinful nature. When one repents of their sins, and is baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, they are dead to their sins, and become a new creature in Christ Jesus. The Bible tells us in Romans 6:1-4: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid, how shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life. Now friend it is a wonderful feeling to know that all of our sins are forgiven, and it matters not what you have done, because the Lord remembers your sins no more.
I suppose the most wonderful feeling a person could ever have is the infilling of the Holy Ghost. When God seals you with his Spirit, it is so awesome that one can even taste the goodness of God!! The Bible tells us in Acts 1:8a, and in Acts 2:2-4: But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Friend, let me ask you, do you have the Holy Ghost like the Bible says? If your answer is yes, then praise God!! If your answer is no, then you are failing to receive the greatest gift that has ever been offered to mankind.
Some of the benefits of having the Holy Ghost are as follows; peace the world cannot give, joy unspeakable, and power to the supernatural wonders of God. The Bible tells us in Mark 16:16-18: He that believeth, and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. This is a promise God has given every blood bought child!
God has also promised us that we have the victory in Him, the Bible tells us in Romans 8:31b, and 8:37: If God be for us, who can be against us? In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. We have life more abundantly in Him, and the Devil is under our feet because of Him. Friend, it pays to serve Jesus, the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. I believe this scripture is speaking of things pertaining to benefits of serving God here on earth, and in heaven.
I could not leave out the best benefit, which is eternity with Jesus. The Bible tells us in Revelation 22:12-14: And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Wow, what an Awesome God we serve. His benefits are far greater than Satan’s!! Friend, now I’m ready to tell you about Satan’s benefits. Are you ready? He has NONE!!! Sorry, the only thing I can honestly tell you about him is he’s a lair, the father of all lies; and he is doomed to HELL!! Friend, why wait until tomorrow to serve a God with so many benefits? One must keep in mind heaven is sweet, and hell is hot, we are going to one ready or not! In closing, this was once seen on an Epitaph: Behold and see as you pass by, as you are now, so once was I, as I am now, you soon will be prepare at once to follow me. Are you ready to know Jesus?
Until Next Time,
